I got an awesome idea. Since this class is helping us understand Lewis's writings, why don't those of us who like to read and want to read Tolkien's works, read Tolkien's works over the summer and make a blog to discuss them as we read them. And we could, like, all read at the same pace, so that we're all at the same place in the book. Such books that we could read:
The Hobbit
The Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King)
Smith of Wootton Major, and Farmer Giles of Ham (It's one book, two stories)
The Silmarillion (haha, just kidding)
Let me know what you guys think. I've actually made a blog which I don't use... at all, and that I would have to rename, but we could use it if you guys want to do this. SO LET ME KNOW.
P.S. I lost the GAME!!

Yeah Matthew, sounds like a good idea, no great idea! I won't be able to participate since I'll be reading books we'll use in the fall, but I'm sure others will want to.
I lost the game...Ugh! I don't know about reading those books? But they sound cool...
one other thing:
if anyone wants to read them, but doesn't have them, you can borrow them from me.
Hey, that sounds like an awesome idea! That way, the group can continue working together on books. To me, I liked the idea of reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
P.S. I lost the game! ;)
I would like this... I haven't started them yet. I lost the game.
so I've got:
me, Glennellen, Anna, and maybe Ari.
I say, if we get two more people, or Ari and one more person, we'll go ahead and do it. The blog that I made is:
www.squirrelinsanity.blogspot.com
We'd have to rename it though, or we could make a different blog. And if we do this, I'll need the e-mail addresses of everyone who wants to join, so I can invite you to the blog.
Also, to Glenn. We'd probably start with the Hobbit, then do The Trilogy, and then MAYBE read Smith of Wootton Major and Farmer Giles of Ham. But we'd figure that out after we know if we're doing it.
another great idea! when we read the trilogy, we could do like we did with LWW & PC and watch the movies after we finish each book. although some of us may not be allowed to, seeing as they're rated PG-13 for "Epic Battle Sequences and some Scary Images". Except for Return of the King, which is for "Intense Epic Battle Sequences and Frightening Images". Big diffence.
Let me know what you think of THIS idea too.
This is a great idea !!! My Brother got The Hobbit and the lord of the rings books years ago and I've been wanting to read them but never got around to it. Watching the movies also sounds like a great idea !
I could watch the movies i'm assuming. I've always wanted to.... and if my mom says otherwise than, well, I told you first. Haha no really I think it's fine. Yeah I want to read the hobbit too if we are gonna do this.... I've been wanting too but haven't had the time or would forget about it when I did have the time.
I was thinking (I know it's dangerous), and I think it'd be better if we read Smith of Wootton Major & Farmer Giles of Ham FIRST, that way we'd be finishing with the Trilogy. an' tha' way, we'll 'ave da 'fore-mentioned book rea' so tha' if we can't fin' da tril' ere da fall, we'll 'ave atleas' rea' da Hobbi' an' da 'fore-mentioned book. comprende? as usual, tell me what you guys think of that idea. and just so you know, the afore-mentioned book is REALLY easy to read, and not very long, but still interesting.
word verification: ingsal
uh, I kinda couldn't understand what you were trying to say in the middle of the paragraph. are those other two books just other Tolkien books which won't really affect the trilogy?
i lost the game :(
the Hobbit is like a prequel to the trilogy. Smith of Wootton Major & Farmer Giles of Ham is one book with two stories which have nothing to do with the trilogy except that they were written by the same author. :)
P.S. If you read the middle sentence out loud in a british accent, you can understand it.
