Letter 17...Gluttony anyone?

This letter is about gluttony. What is gluttony? Gluttony is
1. Eating before the time of meal in order to satisfy the palate.
2. Seeking delicacies and better quality of food to gratify the "sense of taste."
3. Seeking after sauces and seasonings for the enjoyment of the palate.
4. Exceeding the necessary amount of food.
5. Taking food with too much eagerness, even when eating the proper amount, and even if the food is not luxurious.

So, while you may have thought gluttony was just overeating, it can also mean being too particular, eating just to eat or just focusing too much on food.

How can focusing on food interfere with your life?

In what ways according to the letter are women made to be gluttonous?

In what ways are men to be made gluttonous?

1) You focus more on food than on anything else. You get angry with people if your food isn't "just right".

2) Through delicacy and the "All-I-want" state of mind.

3) Through vanity.

If you focus too much on food, then it will cause impatientness, (if that's even a word!) and other negative things.

I guess us ladies are always thinking "I WANT." Well, not ALWAYS. But sometimes.

They are concerned with their vanity and thinking about "manly" food. Like in the book, "Where STEAKS are properly cooked."

and what, pay tell, is so WRONG about Steak?!

How can focusing on food interfere with your life? You become enslaved to it.

In what ways according to the letter are women made to be gluttonous? They like delectable foods, even in small amounts. Therefore they might not realize they are being gluttonous because they aren't overeating and that may be what they think it means. And through the "all-I-want" i'm so innocent all i want is tea sort of attitude.

In what ways are men to be made gluttonous? Pride. They think they know all about food.

1) Forever focusing on food could bring depression into your life. This may sound odd, but it really can. I've heard a story about a lady who was once so overweight that she took up TWO SEATS in an airplane, and would order enough for four people at fast-food restaurants; and she said that she'd eat on the side of the road in her car, just crying to herself (she lost a ton of weight in the end :)) The point is, only thinking of food in your life can be unhealthy both physically AND mentally.

2) Women can ask for their meals to be made "just right" (in the book, they say "properly") so that they may receive exactly what they want. They ask for little so that they may recieve more. In the end, if it isn't what they want, they complain.

3) The letter says that men are best turned into gluttons with the help of their vanity. Eventually, what begins as vanity can then gradually turn into habit.

1. Focusing on food, whether delicacy or excess, eventually produces feelings of unhappiness. Therefore, you don't experience pleasure which bring you closer to God.

2. What ways are women made to be glutonous? "All I want is camoflage", that is what Screwtape says in the letter.

3. What ways are men made .... glutonous? Screwtape says to turn man's attention to his vanity.

NOTHING IS WRONG WITH STINKIN' STEAK!!!! I love steak.
Well, steak is often portrayed as a MALE food. Whereas, sushi, and bon bons and chocolate are the signature female foods.

BTW, that is a FAT rabbit in the picture!
lolololololololol

I must admit, I'd be very tempted by Cephia's "female" foods.

I had sushi last night :)

Thank you, Mrs. Michelle!

HA!!! IN YOUR FACE, MATTHEW!
Of course, of the three foods, I would most definetly go with CHOCOLATE!
