In this letter, Screwtape congratulates his nephew on his progress. It seems his patient is spending increasing amounts of time with his new group of friends, and less time developing his faith. Sure, he still attends church, but his whole heart is not there. A "dim uneasiness" settles in. This "dim uneasiness" can cause him to repent and turn to God or guilt might build up and turn him farther away.
What will God not allow the devils to completely suppress?
What do you think the "dim uneasiness" is that Christians feel when they're being spiritually lazy?
What is the safest road to hell? How can we prevent this in our own life?
Screwtape says, "As one of my own patients said on his arrival down here, I now see that I spent most of my life in doing neither what I ought nor what I liked." Explain what this means? How does not following God produce this type of life?
Here's a link to a music video that sums it all up...

I couldn't get the music video to open up...
God will not let the demons completely suppress the CONTACT with God? Because God is always there, and there will never be complete aloneness for that young man Wormwood is trying SO HARD to mess up!
Cephia-you need to copy and paste the link type thing.
P.S. it's not really a video more a song.
What will God not allow the devils to completely suppress? uneasiness
What do you think the "dim uneasiness" is that Christians feel when they're being spiritually lazy? in the letter it says guilt... i say guilt over being lazy
What is the safest road to hell? the gradual one
How can we prevent this in our own life? not become spiritually lazy and make sure we stay spiritually active...?
Screwtape says, "As one of my own patients said on his arrival down here, I now see that I spent most of my life in doing neither what I ought nor what I liked." Explain what this means? he was lazy and had no benefit from it.... he didn't have fun in his life or get work he didn't like done. he just sat.
How does not following God produce this type of life? we don't have any reason to be called to anything in particular. for example, Christians are called to love. if you don't follow God.... you have no reason to or to not love. and therefore just might do nothing. and not have fun doing it. just sitting.
edit:

Wow that was a awesome video!!!!!
It means you should be active spirtually and not live through the motions!! {That's what I learned from it.}
God will not allow the devils to completely surpress the patient's relationship he'd had with Him. Deep down inside, he still loves the Lord.
The "dim uneasiness" has to do with what is going through the patient's mind, I think. He is trying to figure out where he belongs.
The safest road to hell is the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milstones, without signposts. To me, it sounds like an empty road of NOTHINGNESS.
Screwtape's Quote: he is saying that his previous patient had spent all his life neither doing what he most loved doing, or what he should have been doing. Like, talking to God, laughing freely with those he loves...and other things that meant something to him.
This is what I got from the letter...what do you guys think?
I'll watch the video next!
Whoa...okay, that is so weird that I described the road to hell as a road of NOTHINGNESS; because I watched the video...and in the song he says "the NOTHINGNESS of this world!"
Just thought I'd share that. Maybe I really did grasp the meaning of the letter after all! :)
V.I.P. says:
1st question: Uneasiness...God protectes all of us from that.
It would be very bad if "Uneasiness" overtook us. Our minds would fret about this and that and not paying attention to the "Big Picture".
2nd question:Emptyness...Not doing anything productive...Just selfish,egocentric....that sort of thing...I suppose.......
3rd question: I think the safest road to hell would be to act flippant about religons...
How to avoid journeying down this road. Don't go againist God. DO NOT SIN! Have fun and MIND other peoples religons!!!
4th question: I forgot what the question was...!:} Be right back!!!! He He Ha Ha Ho Ho!
OK I'M BACK!!!!! Hatta says:
4th question: It means that "patient" should have lived his life better! Don't live in the moment! LIVE ALL THE WHILE!!!!!!
How we can avoid going through the road to hell...
You must put your faith in God. Know that all things happen for a reason, and that He loves you more than anything. If things do not go the way YOU planned, it's because it wasn't part of GOD'S plan. Forever love and trust Him, and think of him to prevent anger, and walk down HIS path without hesitation.
He knows what is right for you. And as long as you always put your trust in him, and listen to your heart and His words to you, you will find yourself in Heaven with him some day. :)
addtion to 4th question:
ingoring God and just paying attention only to yourself and not the "Big Picture" will produce that sort of life style....
This is my last post for today!
Bye!
V.I.P.'s RULE!!!!!!!

What will God not allow the devils to completely suppress? the "dim uneasiness" we feel if we move away from God.
What do you think the "dim uneasiness" is that Christians feel when they're being spiritually lazy? knowing your not doing what you should be doing.
What is the safest road to hell? How can we prevent this in our own life? the gradual one. pay attention to your choices.
Screwtape says, "As one of my own patients said on his arrival down here, I now see that I spent most of my life in doing neither what I ought nor what I liked." Explain what this means? How does not following God produce this type of life? God knows what you should be doing and wont waste your time, if you follow him your life will mean something but if you dont you will be wasting your time.
Great comments everyone!
The safest road to hell is the gradual one. I am not sure if i understand the first few questions but i do like the song...it already on my ipod...its the best!!!
God won't allow the tempters to fully suppress the uneasiness that we feel in our "dark, boring, same old thing, going through the motions" phases in our relationship with Him. He allows us to feel that uneasiness so that we can make it through that certain phase and stop just "going through the motions" and really start to focus on Him and give our all to His causes. (?? i didn't know if y'all really wanted that long of an answer...buttttt that's what I got from this letter...oh and b.t.w I LOVE that song! haha =P)
I kinda covered the first and second question all in one...sorry?
The safest road to hell is the gradually sloping downwards hill that causes us to keep slipping further and further away from God. The first thing that came to mind when I read this letter was the song "Slow Fade" by Casting Crowns, which(as the title of the songs implies) really just states that we can slowly fade away from God and what He has for us, and we sometimes we don't realize it until it's too late (or so we think it's too late..)
We can aviod the "slippery slopes" of life by surrounding ourselves by other Christians and people who encourage us and putting pure things in our lives.
His "patient" was stating that he had spent his whole life doing things that never really meant anything to him. His whole life was spent in complacency, bearing no joy or love for what he did. (??)
When we don't follow God we start to slowly slip to the edge of a cliff. When we are in that phase it is hard to hear God calling out to us, casing a void in our relationship, pushing us over to the edge(which is what happened to Screwtapes "patient").
