The Fox

Hey everyone! What do you all think of the Fox character and his relationship with Orual?

I believe Fox is sweet and gentle to Orual ( the loving father she never had.)

I think Fox is like a father to her, she looks up to him and trusts him, and he cares for and protects her.

I think that Orual goes to him for advice, since her nut of a father won't have anything to do with her...
Fox is a good guy.

Those are all great remarks on what you guys think of him. I agree, he's like the father Orual doesn't have and he is always kind to her, and very wise as well. Thank you for the imput! I can't wait for more responces...

I also agree with all the previous posts... Calling your daughter a mandrake root and beating her doesn't necessarily express a whole lot of love to her. I find Fox surprisingly gentle, kind, loving, wise, and deep. Like an ocean. Oh yeah that was deep. He seems to have taken her under his wing, and treats her like the daughter he never had (If he did have a daughter she obviously doesn't contact him).

Very good point, Anna. When I read the whole thing about Orual getting beaten by the King (her father) after sobbing and screaming to him to not let them kill Psyche and make her the Great Offering, I couldn't believe how much damage he had caused towards her. She woke up screaming and unable to even move the next morning!! Her father truly is a horrible man towards her and is VERY violent. I hope that things just might possibly change later on in the book.

Yeah, and it is strange because the book said (I don't remember who said this, I think Oraul or Fox) that the King is just like Redival, how he weeped for Psyche when she was being led to the mountain but before was the one to tell her to be offered (Or atleast the Priest convinced him).... It's almost like he has a huge problem with thinking before-hand, like Redival (She certainly liked that guard a lot, until her father caught her). If that makes any sense...
